ELEONORA DUSE AND GABRIELE D’ANNUNZIO

ELEONORA DUSE AND GABRIELE D’ANNUNZIO

One of the most passionate love stories of the twentieth century

September 20th at 5 PM
Villa Ca’Amata – Riese Pio X (IT)

On Sept. 20 from 5 to 8 p.m., a thematic archive on Eleonora Duse and her love affair with the celebrated poet Gabriele D’Annunzio will be presented at Villa Ca’Amata.

The archive exhibition aims to celebrate one of the most famous and celebrated Italian actresses of her time. Known and loved worldwide for her extraordinary acting skills, the character of Eleonora Duse often recalls in the common imagination the figure of the famous poet Gabriele D’Annunzio. The archive aims to tell the story of a relationship that has now become legend, debunking the image of a Duse totally enslaved and submissive to the charisma of the great poet, giving her back by right the role of strong, generous and art-loving woman that she was. Collected within the archive are books, manuals and newspaper articles that present and describe Eleonora Duse’s life, which delve into the relationship between the two artists and the works of Gabriele D’Annunzio that Eleonora Duse interpreted during their relationship.

The exhibition will take place inside the Ca’Amata Music Room and will include the precious material collected in the archive including the famous tragedies written by Gabriele D’Annunzio for Eleonora Duse in the decade of their relationship, the well-known “Francesca da Rimini” (1901) and “Sogno di un tramonto d’autunno” (1899) of which the evocative 1911 film version will also be projected accompanied by the splendid music of Gian Francesco Malipiero, among the most influential composers of the 20th century, which will be emphasized by the perfect acoustics of the Music Room.
In addition, the itinerary will feature some memorabilia such as photographs, letters and unpublished telegrams of the two lovers along with a section of publishing of the time.
